7 Steps for Setting Winning Non-Stoppable Goals

For many years I let my goals whip and throw me around.

The impact of not winning bruised me deeply and kept me down for the count many times in my life. That’s until I began to fight back and take control of my life.

Through these hardships I learned to get back up, weather storms, and overcome many obstacles.

If you’re like me, I know you are tired of letting your goals defeat you.

Goals should challenge you, not make you run and hide. They should stretch and bring out the best in you, not make you a slave to fear.

When times get really tough, as they will, I encourage you not to shut down this time. Instead stare your goals in the eye and find the strength to push through.

Years ago I did these same things listed below and they worked for me, and I won many times over. Now I’m doing them again and I see huge results.

I dare you to follow these seven steps to follow your dreams and take massive action—now!

  1. MAKE GOALS THAT SCARE THE DAYLIGHTS OUT OF YOU

If at least a few of your goals aren’t scary, create some that are.

If your goals are always easy and don’t stretch you much you’ll never realize your potential.

For example: If you exceeded your annual sales goal by 10% last year, surely you can challenge yourself to exceed that goal by 50% or more this year.

Big goals put you into conquering mode. They start your brain and mind on the fast track to find out HOW something can be accomplished.

Studies show that when someone trying to lose weight does the same exercise day in and day out, the body and the same muscles get used to the same routine and eventually the body reaches a plateau.

In order to change this, you have to trick your body and do different exercises so that you can see results.

Not saying it’s easy, but it certainly is goal worthy, so start writing those new BIG goals.

  1. WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS AND SET REASONABLE DEADLINES

A goal is not an open ended declaration; it is and should be very specific and measurable.

Ever notice that very important things are always in writing?

  • loan and rental agreements,
  • bill statements and purchase receipts
  • birth/marriage/divorce/death certificates
  • Insurance and coverage policies

This list can go on and on, but you get the idea right?

If your goals are not in writing, they just aren’t important. They mean nothing if they are floating around in your mind with the millions of other thoughts you think in any given day.

If you want to lose weight, don’t just say I want to lose weight to be healthy.

Instead say:

I will lose 50lbs in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle by December 20, 2017

If you want to sell $200k in art this year say

Instead say:

I will sell $200k in art to inspire and encourage residential and business collectors by December 31, 2017

Give your goals a timeframe to be reached, but adjust that date if you must. Write them down at least once a day. Writing your goals down daily will keep them top of mind.

  1. COUNT THE COSTS

Yes there are costs involved.

Whether you’re going to law school, purchasing a home, saving money to invest in a new business, paying off debt, redesigning your office or the like—you’ll need to research all costs.

Now don’t add up the cost first and then decide if you want to make it a goal. Make the goal first and then do the research.

Will a developer start construction on a new sky scraper building without counting the costs? Neither should you just jump out into something without knowing how much it will be.

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’ Luke 14:28-30 NIV

Never let the cost of anything deter you from going after the goal. Just have a plan first.

  1. BELIEVE AND HAVE FAITH IT CAN HAPPEN

Godly visions always benefit more than the person with the dream.

When you desire the new home to strengthen your family’s bond or you start that business to enrich the lives of others—believe you can do it.

Mogul and Millionaire Grant Cardone said “success is my duty.”

I believe this because God placed us here for a purpose and carrying out whatever purpose we’re created for is the core reason we are here right?

Faith is the substance of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

So move out of your own way and see the unseen! Reach for the unseen and keep going when it looks impossible.

  • Believe you can provide income for multiple employees through your own business
  • Believe you can touch and change lives through that new book
  • Believe your artwork can inspire and heal a depressed soul
  • Believe your prayers will be answered
  • Believe you can leave that dreaded job and find new opportunities

Win at your goals by believing. People with gigantic faith always find a way—always!

  1. VISUALIZE YOURSELF REACHING YOUR GOALS

Visualize your dreams at least a few times a week.

Get into a quiet place and close your eyes. Now picture yourself standing in front of the crowd live painting, being interviewed by the press, feeding the hungry in Africa, on a stage speaking to thousands, or in your dream home.

Your vision is what drives your dreams and your dreams form your goals.

  1. START WITH WHAT YOU HAVE AT THIS MOMENT HERE AND NOW

When you write these new lofty goals, it’s easy to despise small beginnings.

When you want something so badly you can easily end up frustrated, weary, and ungrateful for what you have and where you are.

It’s understandable to feel this way at times, but don’t stay there—move on.

Value what you have now and embrace the journey. It’s not all about the destination or the end result; find the treasures in the process.

The tools and resources you have right now are your starting point. There is no excuse for not starting because you don’t have all you need.

Your 9-5 may not be where you want to be, but in the meantime you can use your 6-10 to work on your goals.

Your apartment may not be your dream home but you can keep it beautiful and clean.

Your business may not be producing the income you want now but you can spend the down time in research, advanced education, and networking.

  1. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH A LIKEMINDED SUPPORT SYSTEM

Your support system should consist of anyone that supports you on your journey.

This is not all about only surrounding yourself with rich, popular, driven, powerful, and influential people.

Some people’s definition of success may be different from yours and that’s okay.

You’ll want to be around people that not just talk-the-talk, but they walk-the-walk. If you’re a person of character, morals, and integrity you can then determine who you will share your time with.

You can also find a mentor or someone seasoned in the area you’re pursuing.

Remember to leave this life empty. You need to share all that is stored up inside of you with the world. Never stop dreaming big. If you work these seven steps and take them seriously your life will change.

Again, to help you to stay motivated our art can help too. My paintings are representative of motivational, inspiring, and encouraging subjects.
